Other Musical Combinations
In addition to doing my solo gig, I love to perform with my friends. If you are interested in a larger group, here is what I can do.
Piano and bass with vocals – I join with my bass player to provide a slightly bigger sound. We do basically the same material I do as a single, but with twice the vocals, a stronger bottom, and the ability to interact more with each other and with a crowd. We can do everything from jazz standards to rock and roll. Adding the electronic drum machine nearly completes the group, and at a lower price and taking up less space. On a few occasions, I’ve also worked as a duo using piano and drums.
THE ISLANDERS – this is my oldies rock & roll / blues band, consisting of guitar, bass, drums, and me on keyboard and tenor sax. We all sing, and with the guitar player laying down chords, I can jump to the tenor sax to take a lead. This group can easily cover a 4 to 5 hour gig in a bar or lounge, where fans want to dance to 50’s through 70’s music.
Jazz Trio – This consists of me on piano, along with bass and drums. This is your traditional jazz trio where we can take a standard and stretch it out for hours! If live jazz is your interest, I can add any number of musicians (sax, trumpet, guitar, vibes) to create an awesome jazz combo. Most of the music would be improvised instrumental, but we can also do vocals.
Piano and Vibes or Piano and Guitar – This two piece combination is a nice small ensemble for dinner music or easy listening.
GOOD VIBES – The Good Vibes Band is a group I’ve been playing with for around 5 years. We play standards, blues, swing, Latins, and light rock. The members are Rich Ball on vibes, Bob Tomassetti on bass and vocals, Scott James on drums, and yours truly on piano, sax, clarinet, and vocals. The strength of the group is our versatility and large repertoire of different styles. We all have a background and love for playing jazz, plus most of us sing.
Good Vibes’ performances over the past few years
have included the Mt. Vernon Country Club, Apple Valley, Ashland Country Club,
WoosterArtsCenter, Loudonville’s Ohio Theater, as well as numerous
private functions throughout north central Ohio. We’ve performed at the
Town and Country in
Good Vibes plays for dancing, listening, concerts, and dinner or lounge entertainment. In situations where either the budget or space is a concern, we can perform as a 4-piece using my electronic drum machine. (He ain’t fancy, but he works for free!)
Other combinations – I can customize a band to your individual needs. I can include up to 8 to 15 musicians, or include any of several featured vocalists that I work with on occasion. I can guarantee professionalism and the highest quality of musicianship.
